Stress Responses in Our Patients

How to Recognise Them and Why This is Important

The lecture will use the model of the poly-vagal theory proposed by Professor Stephen Porges to examine how people respond to life events through social engagement, fight, flight or freeze responses. It will aim to guide Osteopaths how to recognise these different responses and look at why recognising them is important in taking care of the patient and in clinical outcomes.

About the Speaker

Michael Harris DO

Graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 1991, he fell in love with Osteopathy from day one. His passion for the knowledge transmitted by A. T. Still (the founder of Osteopathy) never waned. He continues to enjoy the practicality of daily life, especially the richness of treating everyone from newborn babies to the elderly. His enthusiasm led him to teach and was fortunate enough to be able to travel around Europe in the hope of inspiring other Osteopaths.

His desire to continue to explore and broaden the scope of his osteopathic practice led him to postgraduate training and through this to a committed role at the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy, first as a student and for the last 15 years as a tutor and lecturer.

Interested in working with more complex and long term patterns that present themselves in individuals in the way the psyche and feelings also express themselves in the body. The current growth in scientific understanding of the interrelationship between mind, emotion, and body is particularly rich and provides much evidence to support some of the claims made by A.T. Still. In this way, Michael is endlessly fascinated by the complexity and intelligence of the body and its capacity for repair.

Mensagem do Director

O Diretor,
Marco Silvestre
